"Y’know most kids nowadays are saving up money to buy bikes, to go and get involved. It’s not all what you see in the news; bikes driving round the streets doing wheelies and dangerous stunts. Over here we’ve got about 5 or 6 strips - we call them strips, they’re industrial, private roads where nothing is being used there - there’s no cars going back and forth, nothing like that. So it’s more of a safe environment" - Yash

Tillbury sand quarry. The location was recently found by bikelife members and has quickly become a popular riding spot. As yet they have not had any problems with police. 

One of the biggest difficulties of being in the bikelife scene is the constant pressure from police for them to move on from their riding spots. "They waste so much of the taxpayers money to try and stop us from riding, and for what?"

Hundreds of Bikelife members, friends and family turned up for a memorial service for Carl on the Carltonstrip (formerly Imperial Way Strip) in Croydon. Some riders travelled from as far as Birmingham in order to pay their respects.

"We get a bad rap because we have no facilities to practice, so a majority hit the roads or carparks and people complain. The only way we can address this issue is to have somewhere legal to ride and then there won’t be anyone on the road."

After coming off his bike at speed and badly injuring his ankle Paul is driven to hospital by a friend. Today was his first day riding after recovering from an accident in September where he suffered a bad back and pelvis injury.

"This is for everyone, not just for sections of people.. This is for everyone, from young to old to get involved in. It’s a day out. An event. If only the government would embrace us and give us somewhere safe to practice and have events instead of portraying us as criminals."
